The games that were set to be held in Japan and in Italy were suspended because of World War Two, and so the 1948 Winter Olympic Games were held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, which had been unaffected by the War. With regards to the amount of medals won, the 1948 set of games was a close call between the top 5 countries. Norway, Sweden and Switzerland all won a total of 10 medals, separated in points by Switzerland winning 3 Gold medals and the other two countries each winning 4.
